Marlins' Grant Dayton: Agrees to terms with Miami

Dayton signed a minor-league contract with the Marlins on Monday, which includes an invitation to spring training, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports. Dayton appears to be back to full strength after inking a MiLB deal and will set his sights on competing for a role in the Marlins' bullpen. He appeared in 13 games during the 2021 season with Atlanta, posting a 6.23 ERA and 1.62 WHIP with a 14:6 K:BB across 13 frames but missed a good chunk of the campaign due to shoulder inflammation. The southpaw went under the knife in November of 2021 to clean up the AC join in his left shoulder, an operation that wasn't expected to disrupt his normal offseason throwing program.

2021 Braves Player Review: Grant Dayton

The Braves bullpen ended the 2021 season as a strength for the club, but there was a time when there was a lot of uncertainty as to who would provide the depth there that the team desired. LHP Grant Dayton was supposed to be a part of that depth, as he had been marginally effective when healthy for the team, but unfortunately the injury bug bit him yet again, which left the Braves looking for other options in the second half.

Grant Dayton: Cut loose by Atlanta

Dayton was released by Atlanta on Saturday. Dayton missed most of the year with shoulder inflammation, though he did make a single rehab appearance in September, which could bode well for his readiness for spring training. He struggled to a 6.23 ERA in 13 innings prior to the injury, and he's heading into his age-33 season, but he still owns a 3.43 career ERA, which could keep him somewhat interesting on the open market.

Dayton (shoulder) began a rehab assignment at Atlanta's complex league affiliate Tuesday. Dayton has been out with a shoulder issue since early June. Given the length of his absence, his rehab assignment is unlikely to be a short one, but he still appears to have time to make it back before the end of the regular season.

Braves' Grant Dayton: Ineffective against Arizona

Dayton gave up two runs on three hits and a walk over one inning of relief in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader against the Diamondbacks. The lefty threw only 15 of his 30 pitches for strikes after entering the game to begin the fifth inning, digging the hole a little deeper for Atlanta after they were already down 3-0. Dayton has been tagged for multiple runs in two of his five appearances to begin the season, saddling him with a 7.94 ERA through 5.2 innings, and he's unlikely to see high-leverage work any time soon.
