Supporting Local Government - Monthly Column by State Rep. Glenn Rogers

As the distance between voters and the 2022 elections gets shorter, many in House District 60 are focused intently on the statewide, congressional, and state legislative races. With a showdown between Governor Greg Abbott and Beto O’Rourke on the horizon, as well as a chance to take back the United States House of Representatives, Texas Republicans are more fired up more than ever at the ballot box. However, in the midst of the campaign season, I want to draw some attention away from those races to the most important group of public servants in the state: your local officials.

Pro-Life: A Veterinarian/Legislator Perspective by Glenn Rogers

Our ranching business is focused on beef heifer development and reproduction. As a veterinarian, one of my favorite jobs is early pregnancy diagnosis using ultrasound. The most amazing thing to see is the heartbeat of an unborn calf and witness the beauty of God’s creation. As I view the monitor on a steady stream of bovine females traversing the chute, sometimes cowboys and cowgirls take a quick break to gather around to witness this “beating heart” miracle.

Former Governor Rick Perry Endorses Dr. Glenn Rogers

Former Texas Governor and Energy Secretary under President Trump, Rick Perry, endorsed conservative republican Dr. Glenn Rogers for re-election to Texas House District 60. “During the legislative session, Glenn Rogers was a conservative champion and fought to secure our elections, invest $2.8 billion in border security, pass constitutional carry, and protect innocent life by banning abortion after the detection of an unborn child’s heartbeat. I’ve known Glenn Rogers since my days serving as a state representative from the same area, and this long, personal relationship and his conservative record give me confidence in his ability to continue to represent the people of Parker, Palo Pinto, and Stephens counties in the Legislature,” said Perry.

State Rep. Glenn Rogers discusses property taxes

Texas’ relationship with property taxes is as old as the state itself. For over a century following our independence from Mexico, state property taxes supported over half of the total state revenue. During this time, the system placed a heavy burden on local officials to collect and assess taxes without any guidance from the Texas Government. Texans were being taxed at high rates with little transparency. Then, in 1979, as the state property tax rate began to spiral out of control, State Representative Wayne Peveto, (D-Orange) authored a bill that reformed the local property tax system to shift away from an unreliable state property tax method.
