Newark Unveils Larger-Than-Life Statue Of George Floyd

The City of Newark, New Jersey, paid tribute to George Floyd on June 16 when officials unveiled a larger-than-life statue in his honor. The 700-lb. bronze statue depicting Floyd wearing comfortable clothing and sitting on a bench was presented to the public in its current position in front of the City Hall building. Local news station Pix 11 reports that officials plan to keep the statue in this location for at least one year in collaboration with the Division of Arts and Cultural Affairs, to recognize the effect of Floyd’s May 25, 2020 murder on the nation.

700-pound bronze statue of George Floyd unveiled in New Jersey

There's a new statue outside city hall in Newark, New Jersey honoring George Floyd. News 12 NJ reports artist Stanley Watts gifted the 700-pound statue to the city. It was unveiled on Juneteenth, which celebrates when the last slaves were liberated in the United States in 1865 and just became a federal holiday.
