Mathews (wrist) will play Sunday against the Hornets, Chris Miller of NBC Sports Washington reports. Mathews will be available for the finale as expected despite a sprained wrist. He went for nine points and two boards across 17 minutes in Friday's win over Cleveland.

Mathews will come off the bench Friday against the Cavaliers, Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington reports. Coach Scott Brooks initially said that Mathews would start, but Chandler Hutchison will get the nod instead. In 37 games off the bench this season, Mathews has averaged 5.4 points and 1.2 rebounds in 14.8 minutes.

Mathews (coach's decision) didn't play during Monday's win over the Pacers. This was Mathews' second straight absence after playing in 55 straight games. The second-year guard out of Lipscomb is currently averaging 5.7 points and 1.4 rebounds in 57 appearances.

Mathews scored 17 points (5-7 FG, 4-6 3Pt, 3-3 FT) across 29 minutes in Monday's loss to the Raptors. Mathews continued to see an increased opportunity in the absence of Bradley Beal (hip). He got hot in the second quarter, knocking down three triples and tallying 12 points. While it was a strong shooting night for Mathews, he has reached double-digit points only twice in his last 18 games and will see his role decrease once Beal is able to return.
