Brewers' Freddy Peralta expected to start Wednesday vs. Pirates

The Brewers have been hit with injuries hard this season, but recently things have been looking up. Milwaukee has all of their preferred starting position players back and healthy, and getting Peralta back is a huge addition to the pitching staff. The Brewers will add the 2021 All-Star back into the rotation that now includes:

Brewers' Freddy Peralta: Comes off IL

The Brewers reinstated Peralta (lat) from the 60-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start in Wednesday's game in Pittsburgh. Peralta stretched out to only 3.1 innings and 52 pitches over the course of his two-start minor-league rehab assignment, but the Brewers were satisfied enough with his results and how he looked from a pure stuff standpoint to bring him back from the IL slightly sooner than originally expected. Though he'll pick up the start Wednesday, Peralta is unlikely to work more than five or six innings, but that could be enough for him to qualify for the win if the Brewers are able to get out to an early lead. The newly acquired Dinelson Lamet was designated for assignment to open up a spot on the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster for Peralta, who will be making his first start for the Brewers since May 22.

Brewers' Freddy Peralta: Rejoining rotation Wednesday

Peralta (lat) will be activated from the 60-day injured list Wednesday to start against the Pirates, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. The Brewers clearly didn't trade for Peralta, but he has not appeared in a game with the big club since May 22, so he can partly be viewed as a big post-deadline addition. Peralta threw only 52 pitches in his last rehab start, so he probably isn't ready for a full workload just yet. However, he should be back at full strength within a matter of weeks.

Brewers All-Star pitcher Freddy Peralta activated from 60-day IL

At the time of his injury, Peralta was 3-2 with a 4.42 ERA and 1.19 WHIP. He had struck out 50 batters in 38.2 innings pitched. The Brewers have currently been using a four-man rotation as the schedule has allowed them to do so with scheduled days off. Corbin Burnes, Brandon Woodruff, Eric Lauer and Aaron Ashby have been the four starters used. Peralta coming back to the mix gives them five. During his rehab with Triple-A Nashville, Peralta was 0-0 with a 1.69 ERA and 0.94 WHIP in 5.1 innings pitched.

The Milwaukee Brewers are adding a 2021 All-Star to the active roster this week. In this case, however, it’s not someone they’re acquiring at the MLB trade deadline. Starting pitcher Freddy Peralta has been on the shelf since the end of May with a strained lat muscle. After starting on the 15-day injured list, the injury was serious enough that it eventually saw him transferred to the 60-day IL in mid-June.
