Freda Payne to Star in Musical About Ella Fitzgerald

Singer and actress Freda Payne is set to appear in Ella, First Lady of Song, a musical about jazz vocal legend Ella Fitzgerald, running Aug. 18 through Sep. 11 at the Madison Theatre at Molloy University in Rockville Center, Long Island, N.Y. The book and direction are by Lee Summers, whose credits include creating and producing From My Hometown, as well as directing and acting in On Kentucky Avenue. Summers collaborated with Maurice Hines to create the musical about Fitzgerald originally back in 2004, when it premiered in New Jersey with a later run in 2018 in Alexandria, Va.

Freda Payne brings Ella Fitzgerald to Bucks County | Philly Theater Notes

Philadelphia Fringe: Proof of vaccination required for some shows. The Philadelphia Fringe has announced its COVID-19 guidelines for this year. All those attending indoor performances at this year’s Philadelphia Fringe Festival must wear masks. And you will need to show proof of vaccination, (either your card or a photo of it) to attend any production curated by Fringe Arts, the festival’s organizer. Vaccination requirements for other, independently produced, Fringe shows may vary. The festival runs Sept. 9 through Oct. 3.
