Alan Toy Joins NBC’s ‘Annie Live!’ as President Franklin D. Roosevelt

Bet your bottom dollar this cast is making history!. Alan Toy has been cast as President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in NBC’s Annie Live! musical, airing Thursday, December 2. The network previously announced that triple-threat veterans Taraji P. Henson, Harry Connick Jr., Nicole Scherzinger, Tituss Burgess, and Megan Hilty will headline the cast, with newcomer Celina Smith at the helm in the titular role of Annie.

Franklin D. Roosevelt Was Diagnosed With This Preventable Disease

In April 1945, Franklin D. Roosevelt, the 32nd president of the United States, died of a cerebral hemorrhage. At the time, he was visiting the Georgia Warm Springs Foundation, a polio rehabilitation center he funded and frequented. Nearly 24 years earlier, Roosevelt was diagnosed with poliomyelitis (via Town & Country). More commonly known as polio, the viral disease attacks the central nervous system and can potentially cause temporary or permanent paralysis. Although polio usually affects young children under the age of five, Roosevelt was diagnosed with the disease in 1921 when he was 39 years old.

Kiefer Sutherland Joins 'The First Lady' as Franklin D. Roosevelt

Kiefer Sutherland will play a president again in the upcoming Showtime historical drama The First Lady, although this time he will play a real president. The series focuses on three very different First Ladies. As President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Sutherland will share scenes with The Crown star Gillian Anderson, who was previously cast as Eleanor Roosevelt. Sutherland was last seen as the fictional President Thomas Kirkman in Designated Survivor.
