Tigers' Eric Haase: Pops home run Saturday

Haase went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's win over the Orioles. It's mostly been a struggle this season for Haase, who's batting just .170 with a .543 OPS, though he does have hits in his last two appearances, which is a small step in the right direction. Haase has two home runs this year after blasting 22 long balls in 2021, and he'll need to start seeing more playing time if he wants to approach that figure in 2022.

Tigers' Eric Haase: Starting Sunday

Haase is starting at catcher and batting eighth in Sunday's game against the Astros. Tucker Barnhart will get the Sunday afternoon game off after starting Saturday night's contest. Haase has not been able to recapture last season's magic, as he's slashing just .140/.229/.233 across 43 at-bats. That should keep Barnhart in the lineup most days, and Haase doesn't figure to have a ton of fantasy value unless he gets going at the plate and can earn more playing time.

Eric Haase not to blame for Detroit Tigers loss

Eric Haase finds himself squarely in the spotlight right now. His wild throw to third in an attempt to start a rundown led to the Detroit Tigers‘ defeat on Tuesday, with two runs scoring as the Minnesota Twins completed a wild comeback victory. Although it is early in the year, these are the types of victories that can galvanize a team, or set a team back.

Tigers' Eric Haase: Enters lineup Sunday

Haase is starting in left field and batting seventh in Sunday's game against the Rockies. After a doubleheader Saturday, the Tigers are shuffling their lineup a bit Sunday, with Miguel Cabrera getting a day off and Austin Meadows shifting to DH. That opens up left field for Haase, who also started in left in the second game Saturday and went 0-for-3 with a walk. He has yet to really get going this season with a .172/.273/.310 slash line through 12 games.

Tigers' Eric Haase: Homers in Opening Day win

Haase went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and a strikeout in Friday's 5-4 win over the White Sox. Haase struck out in his first at-bat Friday when he entered the game as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the eighth, but he blasted a game-tying homer in the bottom of the ninth to help the Tigers secure a comeback win. The 29-year-old should see a fair amount of playing time this year since he has the ability to play behind the dish, at first base and in the outfield.

Tigers' Eric Haase: Might work in platoon?

Haase may work on the short side of a platoon with Akil Baddoo to begin the season, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. The Tigers traded for Austin Meadows on Monday, which adds some new wrinkles to the outfield. Both Meadows and Baddoo are left-handed bats, and one or both may sit out against southpaws. In such a scenario, Haase along with Victor Reyes are options for more at-bats. Even with the addition of Meadows, Haase should see plenty of playing time, as he's versatile enough to play in the outfield, at first base and behind the plate.

Tigers' Eric Haase: Adjusts routine for versatile role

Haase has changed his offseason workout routine to try to be more "explosive" when he plays in the outfield, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports. Detroit manager A.J. Hinch previously said Haase is a "catcher first," though it seems clear from his offseason focus on speed and quickness that he will appear at multiple positions this season. That should help the 29-year-old play more frequently and potentially pick up eligibility at a few different spots. Haase is coming off a career year in which he blasted 22 home runs across 98 games.
