There was a time in my life when I favored a deep side part and a kitchy hair clip. Most likely, you can blame Zooey Deschanel for this. But it looks like Elle Fanning is bringing this 2010 trend back in a much more chic way. Fanning showed up at Cannes Film Festival 2022 with an ultra-deep side part and the cutest little bow ever. The sequin white beaded hair clip perfectly matched her Armani Privé embellished gown. It almost showed up her Chopard diamonds — almost.

Elle Fanning Attends the Cannes Film Festival in a Blush-Pink Ball Gown

Elle Fanning walked the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival screening of "Top Gun: Maverick" Wednesday in a custom Armani Privé ball gown composed of blush-pink tulle and crystals. The dress featured a strapless, figure-hugging bodice and a subtle sweetheart neckline embellished with crystal beadwork. The airy, floor-length skirt was fit for a queen, which makes sense considering Fanning's current role as Catherine the Great on Hulu's hit series about the royal. Fanning styled the look with a layered diamond bracelet, a matching necklace, a gemstone ring, and a bow that echoed a hair-accessory trend that's emerged on recent red carpets.

Elle Fanning Watched A Lot Of ‘Glee’ To Prepare For ‘The Girl in Plainville’

On Hulu’s The Girl From Plainville, Emmy nominee Elle Fanning plays Michelle Carter. In 2017, Carter was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter due to texts she sent to her boyfriend, Conrad Roy, encouraging him to commit suicide. The Girl From Plainville tells the story of Carter and Roy, dramatizing their relationship and the unprecedented Massachusetts trial that led to a guilty verdict. The show focuses on one reported aspect of Carter’s personality, which is her obsession with the Fox television show Glee and, in particular, the relationship between its stars Lea Michele and Corey Monteith. Michele and Monteith played lovers on Glee and dated in real life from 2012 until his tragic death in 2013 at age 31.

‘The Girl from Plainville’: Elle Fanning Nails Michelle Carter’s Makeover in Episode 6

When Michelle Carter first arrived in the courthouse in June of 2017, her appearance took reporters by surprise. Gone was her long hair and every-girl smile. “She was thin, she was blonde, she was tanning booth tan. It felt like she knew she was going to be photographed,”  journalist Jesse Barron recalls in HBO’s documentary about the case, I Love You, Now Die. It’s also a shift The Girl from Plainville captures perfectly. Though it’s been teased since Episode 1, “Talking Is Healing” is the first episode that sees Michelle (Elle Fanning) in trial. Not coincidentally, it’s also an installment that...

When it comes to Michelle Carter’s story, which is being depicted in the Hulu series The Girl From Plainville starring Elle Fanning, there’s no denying the influence Glee and its star Lea Michele had on the teenager who was ultimately convicted of involuntary manslaughter for the 2014 death of boyfriend Conrad Roy (Colton Ryan).
