Elayne Boosler is an American comedian, best known for her appearances on several popular American comedy shows. She was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, and was the youngest child of her parents. Both her parents worked as performing artists. Her father was an acrobat, and her mother was a ballerina. Elayne began her career as a small-time singer/dancer with touring companies and later worked as a doorman at a comedy club in New York City. She met comedian Andy Kaufman while working there. It was Kaufman who inspired her to start doing stand-up comedies. In 1986, she began her TV career with the ‘Showtime’ comedy special ‘Party of One.’ She thus became the first American female comedian to get her own comedy show, and in the next few years, she appeared on several TV shows, establishing herself as a talented comedian. She appeared as a host on popular shows such as ‘The Late Show,’ ‘Friday Night Videos,’ and ‘Donny and Marie.’ Additionally, she has also written and hosted many award shows. She has also appeared as a guest on shows such as ‘The Cosby Show’ and ‘Dear John.’ She is a staunch liberal and often writes articles for ‘The Huffington Post’.
