BATON ROUGE - A teenage shooting victim may have been on his way to the hospital in a car when the vehicle wrecked and his dead body was later found by police. Suspect Indicted In Homicide Case

On Friday, June 11, 2021, a Polk County Grand Jury indicted John Ward Smith, of Lakeland, in connection with a homicide that occurred in the area of West Crawford St. in Northwest Lakeland on April 10, 2021. Smith, age 37, was charged with one count of First Degree Murder. Smith was already in custody and has been held in the Polk County Jail since April 14 on unrelated charges.
