The Chicago Cubs have a lot of faith in Ed Howard. They drafted him with the 16th overall pick in last summer’s 2020 MLB Draft. He was the first shortstop taken in the draft. MLB has him as the Cubs’ fifth-best prospect and Baseball America has him as the fourth-best. None of that has any pro-baseball experience taken into consideration.

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans have probably seen the most change since the last time their team took the field back in 2019. They remained a part of the Cubs organization, but there are plenty of new things to talk about. They changed from High-A to Low-A and will play in a brand new league that is a combination of former Carolina League and Sally League teams. They will also have the legendary Buddy Bailey as their new manager.

The now Low-A Myrtle Beach Pelicans announced their preliminary 30-man roster this morning, ahead of the start of their season on Tuesday night against the Charleston Riverdogs. This is likely to be the most prospect-heavy lineup of any in the Cubs farm system, with six of our top 40 prospects among the position player list, alone.
