Dustin Glenn Poirier is an American mixed martial artist (MMA) who turned pro in 2009. He had fought in both featherweight and lightweight divisions earlier and currently competes in lightweight category in the world’s largest Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) promotion ‘Ultimate Fighting Championship’ (UFC). His initial professional career saw him mostly fighting in regional promotions in his native place Louisiana and the Southern United States. His mixed martial arts record as of October 2019 accounts a total of 25 wins out of 32 matches, with 12 by knockout, seven by submission, and six by decision. He has successfully positioned himself at #2 in the official UFC lightweight rankings as of January 27, 2020. His UFC career so far has seen him earn several accolades, including winning the ‘Fight of the Night’ bonus award thrice against Jung Chan-Sung, Akira Corassani, and Jim Miller. He has also won the ‘Performance of the Night’ award twice against Carlos Diego Ferreira and Yancy Medeiros. Of these, his fight against Jung Chan-Sung in May 2012 was honored as ‘Fight of the Year’ by several publications. He was featured in the 2011 mixed martial arts documentary ‘Fightville.’

Dustin Poirier still has his heart set on a fight with Nate Diaz. At UFC 269, Poirier lost his second bid for the undisputed lightweight title, getting submitted by Charles Oliveira in the third round. Dustin Poirier still doesn’t want to fight Colby Covington, but he’s willing to do so if that’s what it takes. In March, Colby Covington defeated his bitter rival and former teammate Jorge Masvidal, winning a dominant decision at UFC 272. Following the win, Covington called for a fight with Poirier, another former teammate with whom he’s had friction, even including Poirier’s family in the callout. Poirier, a lightweight who previously competed at featherweight, shot down Covington’s call out, but things have apparently taken a turn over the past week.
