Judge grants request to Dorothy Day for time to enter talks with Danbury

Judge grants request to Dorothy Day for time to enter talks with Danbury. A state judge has granted a request from the operators of Dorothy Day Hospitality House for more time before filing a petition to review a court ruling that found the City of Danbury was correct in issuing a cease and desist order for their homeless shelter on Spring Street. Dorothy Day asked for the 20-day extension so they can meet with the mayor to discuss options in the near future. Attorneys say the result may remove the need for a petition. The City agreed to the requested extension. The discussions are needed because of pandemic-related changes to how congregate settings operate. The nonprofit Pacific House is also negotiating with the Super 8 Motel to buy the property and officially turn it into a homeless shelter with wrap around services. The Lake Avenue location has been housing the homeless population since the pandemic began.
