Do you remember the lovely days of the summer of 2019 when there was no life-threatening virus out there killing millions of people? Hollywood sure does. Sherlock Holmes 3 gets an optimistic update from Dexter Fletcher

Sherlock Holmes 3 might not be any closer to production, but that doesn't mean we should discount a threequel based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's perceptive detective just yet. Such a hopeful – if a little vague – update was shared by none other than director Dexter Fletcher, who's attached to helm the third instalment in the franchise starring MCU's Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law as Sherlock and Watson respectively.

Dexter Fletcher on 'The Offer' and Finding the Right Cast for the Series

Based on the extraordinary experiences of Academy Award-winning producer Albert S. Ruddy while making The Godfather, the Paramount+ original series The Offer shows the wild journey the New York City gangster film that had the approval of the actual mob remarkably took on its way to becoming one of the great cinematic masterpieces. In order to make the movie happen, Ruddy (Miles Teller) needed to get Paramount Pictures’ head of production Robert Evans (Matthew Goode), mob boss Joe Colombo (Giovanni Ribisi), the money guys (Burn Gorman, Colin Hanks), author Mario Puzo (Patrick Gallo) and director Francis Ford Coppola (Dan Fogler) all on the same page long enough to finish the production and assemble what they all knew it had the potential to be.

Dexter Fletcher Is Certain Sherlock Holmes 3 Will Be Made

Robert Downey Jr.'s output post "Avengers: Endgame" has been on the light side. In his defense, he did make a bazillion movies in the 10 years leading up to that MCU capper and a little pandemic shut the world down for almost two years in that time period, but still. For a star as big as Downey, it's a shame we haven't seen more of him, especially in roles that audiences have already established they love.

Dexter Fletcher Talks Auditioning For David Lynch's Dune [Exclusive]

Before he became a world-class director of such projects as the Elton John biopic "Rocketman," Dexter Fletcher was a noted child actor in such high-profile films as "Bugsy Malone" and "The Long Good Friday." One of his most notable roles was as the young assistant to Freddie Jones' amoral Mr. Bytes in David Lynch's lauded 1980 biopic "The Elephant Man." Lynch was so taken by Fletcher's talents that he flew to England in 1982 to meet with the then-16-year-old about possibly playing the lead role of Paul Atreides in the big budget adaptation of Frank Herbert's "Dune."

Dexter Fletcher On The Offer He Couldn't Refuse To Direct [Interview]

We may receive a commission on purchases made from links. Director Dexter Fletcher has made biopics of sportsman Eddie Edwards ("Eddie the Eagle"), musician Elton John ("Rocketman"), and even had an uncredited hand in finishing "Bohemian Rhapsody." Now he's taking a stab at a large-scale Hollywood biopic with "The Offer," the sprawling 10-episode story of the making of 1972's classic "The Godfather." Fletcher serves as a producer as well as director of several episodes, and Paramount+ provided us the opportunity to speak 1:1 with the English helmer about the challenges of such an ambitious story as it lands on the streamer today.

Why The Offer EP Dexter Fletcher keeps getting pulled back to the gangster genre

Dexter Fletcher admits his first viewing of Francis Ford Coppola's classic 1972 gangster movie The Godfather took place in less than optimal conditions. "I'm pretty sure I was around 17 or 18," says the actor and director, 56. "I lived in a grungy flat in north London with a bunch of actors, and we saw Scarface and then we decided to go visit The Godfather. It was on VHS, not at the cinema unfortunately, back in the mid-'80s."
