Denise Juneau talks reopening Seattle schools and moving on

Seattle Public Schools Superintendent Denise Juneau has some regrets about how the district has navigated the pandemic on behalf of the city’s 54,000 public school students. District officials didn’t pivot fast enough to make in-person learning for children with disabilities possible. They were unprepared to get every student the device needed to continue learning remotely when the district sent children home from the classroom last year. They struggled to make sure every student home had adequate internet access. And they didn’t give teachers all the help they needed to create a meaningful online learning experience for their students.

Superintendent Denise Juneau Reopening Plan Task Force. The deadline for applications for task force was October 7, 2020, at 9 a.m. The superintendent is forming a task force for the Reopening Plan and Remote Learning model, per Substitute Resolution 2020/21-4. The task force will monitor the progress, implementation, and efficacy of the reopening plan and remote learning model. The task force will advise the School Board and Superintendent Juneau throughout the 2020-21 school year on possible revisions and continuous improvement.
