Minnesota United-Seattle preview: Dayne St. Clair to start in goal again

7 p.m. vs. Seattle * Allianz Field * BSN Extra, Ch. 23, 1500-AM Preview: Just back from his World Cup-qualifying Canadian national team, Dayne St. Clair will start his third consecutive match in goal, Loons coach Adrian Heath said. He is vying for a Canadian roster spot as a third goalkeeper in Qatar in November. "That Dayne's got himself back in the mix for us will be a big boost for him," coach Adrian Heath said. "But as I've told him, Tyler Miller lost his [starting] position through an illness. He's got to make sure he doesn't give up his role by his own performance." ... Starting right back Romain Metanire isn't expected to play, Heath said, while Franco Fragapane and Oniel Fisher should be available. ... The Loons on Friday still awaited the return of midfielder Kervin Arriaga from his Honduras national team. He needs some paperwork finalized. Heath indicated there's a chance he could be back by Saturday. ... Both teams have scored a total of four goals over their first four games. ... Minnesota United preview: Dayne St. Clair to start again in goal vs. San Jose

Loons goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair will start again Saturday, coach Adrian Heath said, after his 1-0 clean sheet that included a penalty-kick save at the New York Red Bulls. St. Clair was a surprise starter when starter Tyler Miller fell ill. "Dayne did well enough," Heath said. "He has been very patient waiting for his opportunities. Dayne knows Tyler has done nothing wrong. We have difficult decisions to make, but it's a nice problem to have." ... Heath on defender Chase Gasper voluntarily entering MLS' substance abuse and behavioral health program: "We'll leave it to the professional people. He just knows we're here for him when he gets back. We just want him to get healthy again." ... The Loons are 1-0-2 this season while San Jose is 0-2-1, including 0-1 on the road. Each team has played Philadelphia. The Earthquakes lost to the Union 2-0 last weekend while the Loons played to a 1-1 draw there on opening day. ... Minnesota connections: Former Loons Francisco Calvo and Jan Gregus and Bloomington's Jackson Yueill all play for the Earthquakes.

Pushed into a starting role following a late scratch of Tyler Miller, St. Clair rose to the occasion in standout fashion, making eight saves, including one on a Patryk Klimala penalty kick early in the 14th minute (Watch Here), in Minnesota United’s 1-0 victory over the New York Red Bulls on Sunday night. The Canadian product has not allowed a goal on four penalty kick attempts in his career.
