David Rivera files to run in open HD 119 contest, but fails to qualify

Despite multiple scandals, Rivera has repeatedly tried to reboot his political career. For a moment, it looked like former GOP U.S. Rep. David Rivera was mounting yet another attempted political comeback, filing to run in the open House District 119 contest on the final day of qualifying for state legislative offices.

David Rivera fined $456,000 for campaign scheme

David Rivera, former Florida congressman has been involved in a scandal and a couple of lawsuits over the past 10 years. He was ordered to pay a fine of $456,000 to the Federal Election Commission for a civil lawsuit in which he allegedly carried out a scheme during a 2012 congressional primary to fund the campaign of Democratic candidate Justin Lamar Strenad to weaken the campaign of Rivera’s opponent, Joe Garcia.

The FEC said Rivera funneled at least $69K to another candidate as part of the scheme. A U.S. District Court says former GOP Rep. David Rivera must pay a $456,000 fine after the Federal Election Commission accused him of engaging in an illegal campaign contribution scheme during his 2012 congressional bid.
