David Peterson set to start Mets’ series-opener against Giants

DENVER — David Peterson has patiently awaited another shot with the Mets and will get the opportunity.  The left-hander, part of the Mets’ taxi squad for this road trip, will be recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to start against the Giants at Oracle Park on Monday.  Peterson last pitched for the Mets on May 3, when he allowed three earned runs on four hits over five innings against the Braves in a doubleheader. Overall, he has pitched to a 1.89 ERA in four appearances for the Mets this season.  The Mets have two rotation vacancies with Max Scherzer and Tylor Megill on the injured...

Mets' David Peterson: Re-entering big-league rotation

Peterson confirmed that he will be called up from Triple-A Syracuse to start Monday's game in San Francisco, Deesha Thosar of the New York Daily News reports. Peterson's appointment to the rotation was fully expected after Max Scherzer landed on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a high-grade oblique strain that is expected to sideline him for 6-to-8 weeks. The 26-year-old lefty had already joined the Mets for the road trip as a member of the taxi squad once the news of Scherzer's injury broke, but New York will wait until Monday to formally recall Peterson from Triple-A. Peterson performed well in his first four outings (three starts) with the big club earlier this season, posting a 1.89 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 16:8 K:BB across 19 innings. Given the severity of Scherzer's injury, Peterson should have a decent amount of leash in the rotation as he rejoins the big club.

Mets' David Peterson: Starts first game of twin bill

Peterson was called up from Triple-A Syracuse and will start the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader with Atlanta. Manager Buck Showalter previously relayed Monday that Peterson would be summoned from the minors to make a start during the doubleheader, though the skipper didn't specify whether the southpaw would get the ball in Game 1 or Game 2. Peterson will ultimately oppose Charlie Morton in the afternoon affair, while Carlos Carrasco takes the hill for the Mets in the nightcap. Before being demoted to Syracuse on April 23, Peterson made three appearances (two starts) for the Mets, working 14 innings while giving up one earned run on nine hits and five walks.

Mets' David Peterson: Returning for doubleheader

Peterson will be recalled to start one half of Tuesday's doubleheader against Atlanta, though the Mets have yet to specify which game, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. Peterson has made two starts and one relief appearance for the Mets this season, allowing just one run on nine hits in 14 innings of work despite an unimpressive 18.9 percent strikeout rate. Trevor Williams picked up the team's most recent spot start in late April, but it looks as though Peterson will be the preferred option Tuesday.
