Younger's Kelsey Spinoff Is 'Pretty Much Off the Table,' Darren Star Says

Friendly warning: This article contains spoilers from the series finale of Younger. Haven’t watched? Get to streaming!. Younger may have ended on a somewhat ambiguous note for leading lady Liza, but at least Kelsey’s future is clear — sort of. After discovering that Rob was actually scamming her (“I have terrible taste in men!”), Kelsey found a new investor for Inkubator in Reese Witherspoon’s production company. (If you don’t remember Kelsey’s dealings with Witherspoon & Co., perhaps the term “age queer” will help jog your memory.)

Sutton Foster and Darren Star on Younger’s Legacy

Younger is the little show that could. The comedy, about a 40-year-old divorcee who lies about her age to get a job in publishing, premiered in 2015 on a smaller cable network (TV Land) just as streaming became the binge-able norm. But the series managed to find its audience and stay afloat for six successful seasons—in part thanks to the show's universal appeal across age lines. Younger's depiction of motherhood, feminism, workplace politics, ageism, and love were always emotionally honest, painfully raw, and supremely empowering.

Hilary Duff’s Younger Spinoff Would Be Like a ‘Female Entourage,’ According to Darren Star

Well, “we got the money, honey” is an Entourage-worthy catchphrase. In December, Hilary Duff’s Lizzie McGuire revival sadly bought a bus ticket back home, but on the very bright side, it opened up her schedule for a rumored spinoff series following her Younger character, millennial publisher and all-around excellent friend Kelsey Peters. Ahead of Younger’s seventh and final season, which debuts April 15, creator Darren Star revealed some details about the (still hypothetical) new show. Like, for example, it would be “female Entourage.”

Younger creator Darren Star describes the potential Hilary Duff-led spinoff as a "female Entourage"

“We’re talking about it. It’s a big question mark whether it’s going to happen,” Star tells Variety. “It could be great, but we never know if these things are going to happen until they’re going to happen.” He adds: “It would be a totally new universe" that would only include Kelsey Peters, who would “be following another dream.” “The best way to describe it is that it would be a bit of a female Entourage with Kelsey as the lead,” says Star. “Still, the caveat is if it’s going to happen.”
