Danny Trejo

Dan “Danny” Trejo is an American actor of Mexican descent. He has appeared in numerous projects on TV and films, mainly portraying villains or anti-heroes. He had a difficult childhood, during which he started using drugs and spent considerable time of his youth in prison. During his incarceration, he became part of a 12-step program to successfully overcome his drug addiction; in 2011, he stated that he has been sober for 42 years. While working as a youth drug counselor, he landed an opportunity to train actor Eric Roberts in boxing for the film ‘Runaway Train.’ This ultimately led to a small part in the film. He then became known for his distinctive appearance and went on to establish himself as a prolific actor, appearing in films of various genres. In 2001, director Robert Rodriguez introduced a character named ‘Machete,’ which was portrayed by Trejo in the film ‘Spy Kids.’ Trejo reprised his role as ‘Machete’ in the film’s sequels. He then played ‘Machete’ in the eponymous spin-off, and reprised his role in its own sequel ‘Machete Kills.’ These movies established him as a potential lead actor in action films.
