The former Azzurri midfielder and current assistant coach was one of a large group of players and coaches who caught Covid-19 during the international break. Former Italy captain and the national team's technical coach Daniele De Rossi has been hospitalized after testing positive for COVID-19 during last month's World Cup qualifiers, Sky Italy reported on Friday.

ROME (AP) — World Cup winner Daniele De Rossi begins his coaching career this weekend after joining the staff of Italy coach Roberto Mancini on Thursday. De Rossi signed a contract on Thursday and will meet with the squad on Sunday at the national team’s headquarters in Coverciano for coming World Cup qualifiers against Northern Ireland, Bulgaria and Lithuania.

De Rossi is already fielding offers to launch his new career. “I feel ready for this new challenge, I am really determined and won't ask myself if I will start with a small or big club, although I doubt a really big club will ask me, as everyone needs to have their career path," said De Rossi.
