Dan Harmon

Dan Harmon Originally Wanted Community's Chevy Chase And Donald Glover To Be Like Beavis And Butt-Head

One of the best parts of "Community" is the friendship between Troy (Donald Glover) and Abed (Danny Pudi), that develops almost by accident throughout the first season of the show. Although Troy was originally written as a conceited jock who looked down on Abed's nerdier, more socially-inept tendencies, by the second half of the season, they were close friends. By the time we got to season 3, the two were pretty much inseparable. A lot of the post-credits scenes in the show's golden era centered around these two doing their fake morning show ("Troy and Abed in the morrrrrrning!"), and when Troy left in the middle of season 5, Abed had a whole mental breakdown where the floor genuinely looked like lava to him.

Dan Harmon Says ‘A Thing Is Happening’ With a ‘Community’ Movie

‘Six seasons and a movie’ has long been the sitcom’s unofficial mantra, and this week the creator gave fans hope that it might come true. Dan Harmon, creator of the comedy series “Community,” recently hinted that there may finally be a movie in the works that’s based on the sitcom series. Harmon, who’s also the creator of the popular animated show “Rick and Morty,” appeared on this week’s episode of the comedy podcast “Good One” to break down Dean Pelton’s (Jim Rash) iconic “Payday Rap” from the fifth season of “Community.” Harmon discussed everything from his famous story circle to the new season of “Rick and Morty.” But the most exciting part of the podcast happened when he talked about a potential “Community” movie coming out in the near future.

Dan Harmon hasn't given up on a Community movie, but he wonders: “Are you supposed to service a mythical new viewer?”

“The obvious, dogmatic, practical, off-the-street answer is like, ‘No, you don’t. It’s fan service," says Harmon in an interview with Vulture's Good One podcast. "Why would there be a Community movie? Who do you think is going to walk in off the street and buy popcorn and sit and watch a Community movie like that? They deserve to be punished. Why are they doing that?' Saying that that person doesn’t exist is a lot different from asking yourself structurally if you’re supposed to design the movie for them, because there’s a new viewer inside of all of us. If every Marvel movie started with inside references to all 90 other Marvel movies, even if you had seen all of them — even if on one level you’d be like, ‘This is the greatest Marvel movie ever because all of the movies are in here ‘— I think that a part of your brain would be going, ‘Yeah, but it’s kind of not a good movie for this reason. It’s just speaking in gibberish. What does this mean?'”

Dan Harmon Still Actively Thinking About Making a ‘Community’ Movie Despite Its Primary Challenges

"Six Seasons and a Movie" has been the famous rallying cry from the Community fan base, and since the series did run for six seasons, there's still hope that a Community movie is on the way. Dan Harmon, creator of Community, as well as the widely popular cartoon Rick and Morty, recently appeared on Vulture’s Good One podcast and revealed that he is still actively thinking about the Community movie.

‘Community’ creator Dan Harmon says “gears are turning” on a movie

Dan Harmon has confirmed that a feature-length Community film is still on the cards. “I am, at least once a week, thinking about it, because the gears are turning,” he told Vulture’s Good One podcast. “Logistically, the locks are coming away. The only problems are becoming the creative ones,” he...

Dan Harmon still believes in a Community movie, despite the looming philosophical questions it poses

The age old query returns: six seasons and a movie, or no? Dan Harmon continues to ask himself this and many more questions concerning the long-awaited film based on the NBC (and then, briefly, Yahoo! Screen) sitcom Community. In an interview on Vulture’s Good One podcast, the show’s creator reveals he has not given up on the prospect of a follow-up film.

‘Rick and Morty’s Dan Harmon Thinks “A Rickconvenient Mort” Is an Awards Contender

It’s going to be a while before Rick and Morty Season 5 is up for any serious awards. But already one of its creators has an idea about which episode this wild show may submit. During an interview with Decider, Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon revealed that he’s eying Season 5, Episode 3’s “A Rickconvenient Mort” for the awards submission treatment.

Rick And Morty's Dan Harmon Shares Hilarious Stamp Of Approval For Complex AF Decoy Episode

Rick and Morty has gifted fans some wild AF episodes in its run so far, but what the hilariously deadly Season 5 episode "Mortiplicity" did was quite special indeed. Viewers went on a twist-filled ride as Rick revealed to the rest of the family that he'd created "decoys" of them in the case that any threats ever tried to target them, which was absolutely worth all the worry. The episode then jumped from decoy family to decoy family while keeping the audience guessing whether they were watching the real characters or not.

Dan Harmon is Adapting “Strange Planet” into a TV Series on Apple

Between Rick and Morty coming back for another season and now Strange Planet being turned into a series on Apple it’s fair to say that Dan Harmon is staying busy. The animated show is going to be akin to a few of the other shows that people have seen rolling around over the years, meaning it will be about a group of aliens that point out the absurdity of modern life and how humans are strange creatures for the many things they do. This is a pretty common theme but it’s a wonder how more and more shows keep applying it without being seen as copycats that are taking ideas that have been done a dozen times before and turning them into something else that they figure people haven’t seen yet. The truth is that a lot of ideas tend to get recycled on a regular basis, but people tend to accept it either because they figure that it will be different, or the creators are banking on the idea that younger viewers are growing up with these shows and seeing them as something new. It’s happened to all of us at one point, we think we’re seeing something brand new only to find out that the idea has been done and done again in a few different ways.
