– News of Dakota Kai’s release was said to have gotten a lot of “private negative feedback” from women within WWE as she was “very well respected” as a worker, according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Prior to her being cut, Kai was said to have been offered a new contract but she made a decision to not sign it as she didn’t see a future with the company.

In an interview with SportsKeeda, Diamond Dallas Page spoke about WWE recently releasing Dakota Kai and said that AEW should sign her when her non-compete is up. DDP said: “I was surprised they got rid of Dakota. She’s good-looking, her work is really good, I was expecting to see her up there, but she never got that shot. If I was Tony Khan, I’d pick her a** up. They have some good talent there with the women now. WWE’s women’s talent is off the charts. Most of the girls are better than the guys. If I was Tony, I’d pick her up. But it’s a different world now bro.“

WWE went on to release another wave of names related to the NXT roster overnight, with numerous talents having been fired overnight, for no longer being part of the company's plans for the future. Among the many names fired, illustrious names such as those Dakota Kai, Dexter Lumis or Malcolm Bivens, the manager of the Diamond Mine, stable with Roderick Strong, have also been sent away.

Dakota Kai reportedly had plans to leave WWE before the company released her on Friday. Kai and nine other WWE NXT Superstars were released due to budget cuts. Kai’s WWE contract was set to expire in April 2023, according to a report from Fightful Select. It was noted in the report that Dakota Kai had made it clear that she didn’t plan on re-signing with WWE.

After Toxic Attraction cheated to take the NXT Women's Tag Team Championships from Raquel Gonzalez and Dakota Kai, Kai was enraged, tearing apart the areas backstage. She was also booked in a match against Mandy Rose for the NXT Women's Championship, and tonight the two finally threw down. After the bell, they instantly locked up, and Kai got Rose in a corner and unloaded a flurry of punches. Rose kept her distance and then knocked Kai down, but Kai came back. Rose then slammed down Kai and celebrated a bit, and then got Kai in the corner for some kicks.

Tonight's WWE NXT featured two more Quarterfinal matches in the Women's Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, and up first tonight was Indi Hartwell and Persia Pirotta vs Dakota Kai and Wendy Choo. At first, it was back and forth and then Pirotta and Hartwell got the upper hand, but then Kai and Choo teamed up to slam Hartwell into the turnbuckle and then teamed up again to slam her face-first into the mat, but Hartwell kicked out in back to back pin attempts. Choo went for a splash move but Hartwell countered and tagged in Pirotta, who lifted Choo up on her shoulders, though Choo got away.
