The Wizards season has come to an end, with the team officially finishing 10th in overall lottery odds. This conveys a 3 percent chance of landing the first overall pick and a 13.9% chance of picking within the top four. With youth on the mind, I decided to look back through the season and grade two of the ‘Baby Wiz’ (shoutout Ava Wallace) on their season, as well as give some thoughts as to what these players should look to work on in advance of next season. Look for more season grades to come next week!
While Corey Kispert’s rookie season rated a bit below average, overall it was reasonably encouraging. Injuries forced him into the starting lineup, where his strengths (shooting and cutting, primarily) and weaknesses (defense, playmaking, rebounding) were on display. I had him ranked 7th overall in my pre-draft analysis, and while...
WASHINGTON -- Though Corey Kispert was a four-year college player and filled an area of need for the Wizards with his 3-point shooting, team president Tommy Sheppard said he didn't expect much from the 2021 15th overall pick in his rookie season. The Wizards entered training camp with considerable depth...
'It can definitely catch you off guard': Former Gonzaga stars Jalen Suggs, Corey Kispert and Rui Hachimura reflect on season’s tests, achievements
Their games look nothing alike, but Jalen Suggs, Corey Kispert and Rui Hachimura still traveled common ground during an NBA season filled with unique challenges and growth. Especially for the rookies. Suggs, the fifth overall pick, and Kispert, selected 15th overall, learned the NBA comes at you fast, so fast it tests the fortitude of first-year players competing against the best players on the planet.
Kispert finished with 20 points (8-12 FG, 4-8 3PT), three rebounds and one assist in the 124-108 loss to Charlotte on Sunday. Kispert put up his third-highest scoring output in Washington's season finale. The rookie put together a solid scoring stretch to end the season as he reached double figures in 14 games since the beginning of March.
Kispert supplied 12 points (5-11 FG, 2-7 3Pt), three rebounds and three assists across 32 minutes during Wednesday's 118-103 loss to the Hawks. Kispert scored in double figures for a third consecutive contest and for the sixth time over his last seven games. During that stretch, the rookie has averaged 12.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 34.7 minutes per game.
Kispert finished Sunday's 144-102 loss to Boston with 10 points (4-6 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 1-1 FT), five rebounds and two assists across 33 minutes. Over his last five appearances, the rookie has averaged 12.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 36.0 minutes per game.
WASHINGTON -- There was a video earlier this season of Miami Heat guard Duncan Robinson playing against the Wizards that went viral mainly because of the angle from which it was shot. Robinson was being defended by Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and ran back and forth, finally getting open off a screen to knock down a 3-point shot.
WASHINGTON -- Once the first few picks are off the board is when the NBA Draft usually becomes less predictable, but when the Wizards were on the clock at 15th last summer, one player stood out as an obvious fit. They desperately needed 3-point shooting and still available was the best 3-point shooter in the class, Corey Kispert of Gonzaga.
Kispert shines from deep with 25-point performance originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington. For a season that’s slipped away from the Wizards and one that will likely end in two week’s time, a major bright spot came Sunday in the form of Corey Kispert. On a record-setting night...
Kispert provided 25 points (9-12 FG, 6-9 3Pt, 1-1 FT), one rebound and three assists across 41 minutes during Sunday's 123-115 victory over the Warriors. Kispert poured in a career-high 25 points across a whopping 41 minutes -- joining Bradley Beal and Jordan Crawford as the only rookies in franchise history with 25-plus points and five-plus threes in a contest. His scoring output is maddeningly inconsistent, but Kispert is shooting 40.9 percent from beyond the arc over his last 15 games.
Corey Kispert made six triples on his way to a career-high 25 points in the Wizards’ 123-115 win over the Warriors. He now has 96 three-pointers on the year, which is the Wizards’ all-time record for a rookie. “That’s kind of my calling card. That’s the reason why...
Corey Kispert and Kristaps Porzingis led the way for the Washington Wizards. They were on point all night and their efforts allowed the Wizards to control the game. Kispert scored 25 points on 9-for-12 shooting from the field while shooting 6-for-9 from behind the three-point line. The rookie spoke postgame...
We had a great night targeting three-point props yesterday, and the hope here is we build on that momentum. With a small NBA slate on tap, there is just one target I like for threes tonight. Corey Kispert. The Wizards get the Milwaukee Bucks tonight, a team allowing the most...
