Nashville Predators: Colton Sissons the Odd Man Out in Expansion Draft?

The closer we get to the NHL Expansion Draft the more clear it’s becoming that the Nashville Predators are going to lose a very valuable piece of their roster. Some teams get fortunate in the expansion draft process and lose a player who really doesn’t fit their system anyway, or wasn’t part of the long-term plan. It doesn’t seem like the Predators are going to be that fortunate.

Predators' Colton Sissons: On ice for warmups

Sissons (upper body) is on the ice for pregame warmups Wednesday against Columbus, Brooks Bratten of the Predators' official site reports. Given the fact he's taking line rushes, it seems like Sissons will play after sitting out last game with an injury. With 10 points in his last 15 games across 14:40 of average ice time, the 27-year-old has been a pretty productive bottom-six asset.

Predators' Colton Sissons: Won't play Monday

Sissons (upper body) is considered day-to-day and will not play against Columbus on Monday. I's unclear when Sissons sustained an injury but he was a late scratch for Monday's contest. He has just 15 points in 52 games this season but 10 of those have come over the last 15 contests. He'll be questionable for Wednesday's rematch with the Blue Jackets.

Predators' Colton Sissons: Provides go-ahead tally

Sissons scored a goal on his only shot and added a pair of hits in Wednesday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Blackhawks. Sissons muscled through two Chicago defenders to break in alone and ripped a quick shot past netminder Malcolm Subban, giving Nashville a 2-1 lead with 6:21 left in the second period. The goal was Sissons' eighth of the season and gave him eight points in 11 April games. He had amassed just five points over the first three months combined.

Sissons notched a shorthanded assist and three hits in Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Hurricanes. Sissons sprung Erik Haula for a breakaway goal in the third period. Sissons scored a goal and added two hits in Tuesday's 7-2 win over the Lightning. Sissons tallied at 6:38 of the first period. The 27-year-old forward has three goals and three helpers in his last seven outings. That's a good run for the fourth-liner, who is up to 11 points, 45 shots on net and 59 hits through 44 contests.

Predators' Colton Sissons: Registers two assists

Sissons posted two assists in Thursday's 7-1 win over the Red Wings. Sissons had helpers on goals by Nick Cousins and Yakov Trenin in Thursday's blowout win. The 27-year-old Sissons has two goals and two assists in his last four outings. The fourth-liner is up to nine points, 52 hits, 43 shots on net and a minus-1 rating through 41 contests. His lack of consistency on the scoresheet will likely keep him off the fantasy radar.

Predators' Colton Sissons: Nets lone goal in loss

Sissons scored a goal and added two hits in Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Stars. Sissons tied the game at 1-1 with his first-period tally on a feed from Yakov Trenin. The score snapped a four-game point drought for Sissons, as well as a 14-game goal drought. The 27-year-old forward has five goals and an assist in 38 contests this season. He's added 39 shots on net, 50 hits and 12 PIM in a bottom-six role.

Predators' Colton Sissons: Pockets helper Tuesday

Sissons recorded an assist and three shots on goal in Tuesday's 2-0 win over the Red Wings. Sissons' secondary assist on a Mathieu Olivier goal in the second period was the former's first helper of the year. The 27-year-old Sissons is up to five points, 33 shots, 37 hits and a minus-3 rating in 33 contests. He's a steady fourth-liner with little chance of moving up the lineup, so fantasy managers can overlook his infrequent offense.

Predators' Colton Sissons: Scores rare goal Friday

Sissons notched his second point of the season Friday, scoring his team's only goal in a 2-1 loss to the Panthers. With a career-high 15 goals back in 2018-19, Sissons has never been a big scorer. Instead, his value to the Preds can really be found in other areas -- defensive play, faceoffs, killing penalties, etc. -- something the team acknowledged when they locked him up to a seven-year deal back in 2019. That being said, fantasy owners should not assign him similar value. He simply doesn't rank well enough in any of the major stat categories to give him value outside of very deep leagues, so you should avoid using him if you can.

Predators' Colton Sissons: Seals win with late tally

Sissons scored a goal on two shots and was plus-2 in Saturday's 5-2 win over Columbus. He also won six of 10 faceoffs. Sissons broke in alone and beat Columbus goalie Elvis Merzlikins with a nifty backhand-to-forehand move, closing out the scoring with less than five minutes remaining. The 27-year-old ended the 2019-20 regular season with a 10-game goal drought, so it's encouraging to see him finding the net early in the year. Sissons scored between eight and 15 goals in each of the last four seasons, and he should push for double digits again, even with the abbreviated 2021 schedule.
