Contract Status: Under contract through 2021-22 ($2.25 million cap hit) At this point with Cody Eakin you know what you’re getting. A gritty veteran forward who will provide leadership, win faceoffs, be decent on the penalty kill and throw in a point or two here and there. If that was the expectation for the Sabres when they added the fourth line forward, then they got what they asked for.

Cody Eakin is not necessarily a well-known commodity for his on-ice performance, but he is known throughout the league for having a really good head of hair. Eakin got 8.9 percent of the votes in that category in the NHLPA’s player poll. He’s been with the Sabres for two seasons, playing in more of a defensive and checking role for the team while also bringing a veteran presence to the group. He has only put up a combined 19 points in his two years in Buffalo, but his contributions go beyond points while playing in the bottom-six of the depth chart.

Eakin's listed as a healthy scratch for Friday's game against the Blackhawks, so he's no longer battling an illness. Eakin's healthy, but he still won't be in the lineup for Friday's season finale. He finishes the campaign with four goals and eight assists in 69 games.

BUFFALO – Sabres center Cody Eakin suffered an undisclosed injury in Friday’s 5-4 win over the Minnesota Wild and missed this morning’s practice at LECOM Harborcenter. Coach Don Granato said Eakin, who was undergoing X-rays, hasn’t been ruled out of Sunday afternoon’s game against the Los Angeles Kings.

Eakin (undisclosed) will play Sunday against the Kings, Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News reports. Eakin was originally deemed questionable due to an undisclosed injury, but he'll be able to power through in his usual bottom-six role. His availability likely won't move the needle much in fantasy circles considering Eakin has mustered only 11 points and an ugly minus-14 rating in 51 games this season.

Eakin missed the last five games and hasn't suited up since Oct. 19 while dealing with an upper-body injury. He's been at practice the last two days and should be back in the lineup Tuesday. The veteran forward scored two points while averaging 13:42 of ice time in three games before the injury.
