Florida’s power play resembles Flyers’; Claude Giroux, Panthers fall

Claude Giroux, the former Philadelphia Flyers captain, has seen this before. A power play that is beyond awful; a weak penalty kill that spelled the difference. If Giroux didn’t know better, he probably felt he was still in Philadelphia and not the Sunshine State. Special teams killed Florida in...

Stanley Cup Playoff blog: OTs, playoff Claude Giroux, and an iconic theme

It's inevitable. At some point in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, you're gonna need some coffee. It happened right away this year. The Rangers and Penguins needed three overtimes to decide the opening game of their series. The Penguins needed a goalie switch midway through the second OT, New York netminder Igor Shesterkin made 79 saves — the second most in playoff history — and the longest NHL game ever played at Madison Square Garden ended after nearly 106 minutes, when Pittsburgh's Evgeni Malkin tipped in the game-winner.

Panthers' Claude Giroux: Practicing Monday

Giroux (rest) took part in Monday's practice session, Jameson Olive of the Panthers' official site reports. Giroux slotted into a spot on the second line with Jonathan Huberdeau and Sam Bennett after having sat out the Panthers' last two games. Prior to his absence, the 34-year-old center racked up 18 points in his last 12 outings, including two goals and seven helpers with the man advantage. If Florida makes a deep run into the playoffs, the addition of Giroux could go down as the best move at the trade deadline this year.

Ranking Stanley Cup-less playoff players: Where do Joe Thornton, Claude Giroux, Connor McDavid, others land?

As the Tampa Bay Lightning celebrated their second straight Stanley Cup championship last summer, my eyes were drawn to one player: defenseman David Savard. He had played 597 NHL regular-season games and 37 more in the playoffs before the Columbus Blue Jackets traded him to the Lightning at the deadline. He walked into a locker room filled with newly fitted Stanley Cup rings from 2020, having never played for one yet in his career -- no pressure, new guy.
