John Tortorella is basically already planning for life after Chuck Fletcher

John Tortorella might be new in terms of being the Philadelphia Flyers’ head coach, but the veteran bench boss knows a thing or two about longevity. Despite a reputation as demanding boss — and former players aren’t shy to back that up, both in support and against Tortorella — his shortest stint behind an NHL bench is one full season with the Vancouver Canucks. That 82-game stint is certainly an outlier as Tortorella’s hard-nosed style is proven, having lasted six years each with the New York Rangers and Columbus Blue Jackets with another seven seasons behind the bench while winning a Stanley Cup with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Chuck Fletcher Is Wilding Out In Philly

Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher facing another long, important offseason

VOORHEES, N.J. — He confirmed there will be a new head coach in place sometime during the offseason, playfully added “a little bit of both” when asked whether he’d be spending another long offseason trying to woo free agents and/or making trades rather than working on stockpiling prospects and assets for a future that never seems to come.

Recapping Chuck Fletcher’s end of season media availability

It’s that time again! With the season over for the Flyers and the player exit interviews done with, all that left was for Chuck Fletcher to complete his own end of season availability, and we got that this morning. With an acknowledgement of the difficulty of the season, Fletcher fielded questions about the team and how they plan to right the ship, and while there wasn't anything massively groundbreaking, there was still a good bit for us to dig into. Let’s hit on some of those key points.

Chuck Fletcher is searching for “the ideal candidate”

The biggest thing to come out of today’s Chuck Fletcher press conference is that the organization’s focus is on finding and hiring the next coach. As a professional recruiter, I have had to listen to a million hiring managers attempt to talk about building an “ideal candidate profile” and the experience can be just as painful as what we just heard from Fletcher.
