Christian Lee Hutson has built up some acclaim for himself in recent years, starting most notably with his 2020 album Beginners, his first released on Anti-. In April, he followed that album up with Quitters. Hutson got a good look this weekend on CBS Saturday Morning as part of “Saturday Sessions,” as Hutson performed a trio of songs: “Rubberneckers,” “Lose This Number,” and “Just Like Heaven.”

Hailing from Los Angeles, Christian Lee Hutson started playing guitar at age 12. After two self-released albums, he met up with Phoebe Bridgers and Conor Oberst, who helped produced his new collection. Hutson begins his first headline tour in July and then opens for Bridgers starting in mid-August. Singer-songwriter Christian Lee Hutson is good-looking in a vague way that encourages strangers to mistake him for famous people—he’s posed with multiple fans insisting, despite his protests, that he is the English actor Dan Stevens. Born and raised in Santa Monica, he counts Conor Oberst and Phoebe Bridgers as friends, both of whom receive production credits on his new album, Quitters. He’s also spent time as a touring guitarist for Jenny Lewis, even though he didn’t own an electric guitar when she invited him. With his blond locks and blue eyes, he resembles the foil in an Alexander Payne movie, the attractive guy to whom good things just keep happening.

LA based singer-songwriter Christian Lee Hutson released his anxiously awaited sophomore album Quitters last week, the day after his Louisville appearance with Bright Eyes at Old Foresters Paristown Hall. The project was produced by his regular collaborator Phoebe Bridgers and her Better Oblivion Community Center bandmate Conor Oberst. Hutson has also shared a video for the new song “Rubberneckers” which features backing vocals from Bridgers.

Early next month, Christian Lee Hutson is releasing a new album, Quitters, which was produced by Phoebe Bridgers and Conor Oberst. We’ve heard “Strawberry Lemonade” and “Rubberneckers” from it so far, and today the Los Angeles musician is putting out another track, “Cherry.” “I wanted to describe that part of growing up in Los Angeles, having a cool older friend who will drive you speeding and have you jump out on the roof of the car,” Hutson explained. It's a dark character study soundtracked by mournful horns, and about it, Christian says, "There’s a specific type of an older man that I have encountered a lot in LA. The aging rocker who hasn’t had a long relationship and they are the McConaughey-like character who is dating a much younger girl, and they have just stopped progressing."
