Eagle of the Week: Christian Brown (5/16-5/21)
The Kent City boys track team captured the final CSAA Silver championship this past week, and Christian Brown was a big reason why. Though the Eagles had already earned a share of the title by going undefeated in the five head-to-head meets, they ensured the title was theirs exclusively by taking 1st place at the conference meet that took place this past Friday. Brown had an outstanding day, collecting not one, not two, not three, but four 1st place finishes! He started the day with a long jump PR of 20 feet, 2.5 inches, shattering his previous record by a full foot. He then moved on to the 4x200m relay, where he, along with Tyson VanderLind, Isaac Wright, and Carter Magoon, narrowly beat out conference rival White Cloud. After a long break, he took his third gold medal, running a 24.01 in the 200m. With only the 4x400m relay left, Kent City needed to win to beat White Cloud and earn the conference championship. The Eagles fell behind early, and Brown got the baton as the third runner with a considerable distance to make up. He helped close the gap some and then handed it off to Thomas Swanson, who finished the job, earning the Eagles the conference title.
