Islanders' Casey Cizikas: Leads team in minor penalties

Cizikas led the team in minor penalties this season with 24. The Isles rely on the line of Matt Martin, Cal Clutterbuck, and Cizikas to provide the team with a burst of energy, but that wasn't the case last season as the entire line seemed to struggle from the opening puck drop. That line will likely be together to start the 2022-23 season, but another slow start could see coach Barry Trotz contemplate making changes to one or more of the trio.

Islanders' Casey Cizikas: Has career high in penalty minutes

Cizikas has set a personal best in penalty minutes this season for the Islanders with 48. The previous high for Cizikas was the 41 he had in 2019-20 in just 48 games. Cizikas is not a fighter, so the majority of these PIMs have been minors. While it's nice to get on the scoresheet, the Islanders would prefer that he put up a goal or an assist more often. Since setting a career-high in points during the 2018-19 season with 33, Cizikas only scored 14 points the next two seasons and, this season, also has 14 points. Cizikas comes into the game Thursday without a point in his last eight games.

NHL suspends Islanders forward Casey Cizikas for 1 game

NEW YORK (AP) — New York Islanders forward Casey Cizikas has been suspended for one game without pay for. The incident occurred in the third period of a game Friday night at Carolina. Smith tried to control a loose puck in a corner and was hit from behind by Cizikas, who had closed in to forecheck. The force of the hit sent Smith's helmet hard into the plexiglass and Cizikas was assessed a minor penalty on the play.
