The legendary Detroit musician explains the creation process for “Party/After Party” at DIA Beacon in New York. Last year, DIA Beacon, a contemporary art museum in New York, commissioned legendary Detroit techno producer Carl Craig to create a massive sound installation in the museum’s basement. The new work, called Party/After Party, is a sonic environment that is anchored to the museum’s history as a former Nabisco packaging factory, recalling a Detroit techno tradition of reclaiming industrial spaces for radical experimentation. Deeply personal, the work accesses both the euphoria of the club environment and the loneliness that follows the collective experience.

Craig isn’t a newb to the scene, his first album Landcruising came out in ‘95—right at the start of the Jnco era—and his spaceage remix of Junior Boys’ “Like A Child” was nominated for a 2008 Grammy.
