The legendary Detroit musician explains the creation process for “Party/After Party” at DIA Beacon in New York. Last year, DIA Beacon, a contemporary art museum in New York, commissioned legendary Detroit techno producer Carl Craig to create a massive sound installation in the museum’s basement. The new work, called Party/After Party, is a sonic environment that is anchored to the museum’s history as a former Nabisco packaging factory, recalling a Detroit techno tradition of reclaiming industrial spaces for radical experimentation. Deeply personal, the work accesses both the euphoria of the club environment and the loneliness that follows the collective experience.
