Reds' Buck Farmer: Tallies first career save

Farmer gave up one walk but did not surrender a hit in a scoreless ninth inning of work to earn the save in a 3-2 win over the Orioles on SUnday. Farmer was called upon to protect a precarious one-run lead after Brandon Drury hit a go-ahead pinch-hit home run. He shut the door on the Orioles to pick up his first career save. The 31-year-old veteran has pitched only 21 innings so far in 2022 and has a 5.49 ERA. Nevertheless, he finds himself thrust into a co-closer role in Cincinatti along with Alexis Diaz due to injuries to Tony Santillan (back) and Art Warren (right flexor pronator strain) while normal closer Hunter Strickland is on the bereavement list.

Yankees potential trade target: Buck Farmer

When the Yankees traded for Clay Holmes last July, the general collective response was rather simply, “Why?” Holmes, after all, had a 4.93 ERA and a 4.07 FIP with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and he allowed almost one and a half batters to reach per inning. The Yankees, however, simplified his approach, getting him to drop his four-seamer and curveball to become a two-pitch, sinker-slider pitcher. Now, Holmes has become one of the best relief pitchers in baseball.

Reds place lefty Ross Detwiler on 15-day IL, select righty Buck Farmer

The Reds placed Ross Detwiler on the 15-day injured list and selected the contract of Buck Farmer, per a club announcement. The veteran Detwiler experienced a kind of renaissance last season, appearing in more than 20 games for the first time since 2015. If he’s healthy, the Reds will likely listen to offers for the southpaw, should there be a contending team looking for a low-cost southpaw to add to the pen. Detwiler has a 4.20 ERA/4.97 FIP in 18 appearances totaling 15.0 innings for the Reds this season.

Reds' Buck Farmer: Contract selected by Reds

Farmer's contract was selected from Triple-A Louisville on Saturday. Farmer made 10 relief appearances for the Reds earlier in the year, and he posted a 6.75 ERA and 1.83 WHIP in 12 innings. The right-hander rejoined the Reds on a minor-league deal after being designated for assignment in May, and he'll be added to the major-league bullpen after Ross Detwiler (back) was placed on the 15-day injured list Saturday.

Reds call up Buck Farmer, place Ross Detwiler on the injured list

The Cincinnati Reds have placed left-handed reliever Ross Detwiler on the 15-day injured list with lower back pain and have called up Buck Farmer from Triple-A Louisville. Farmer had to be added to the 40-man roster, but the team had an open spot after designating Robert Dugger for assignment yesterday.

It's time for the Reds to bring Buck Farmer back to Cincinnati

Don't look now, but Buck Farmer is dealing down at Triple-A Louisville. The Cincinnati Reds designated Farmer for assignment earlier this season and then the two sides renegotiated a minor league deal. Farmer has been in the Derby City since mid-May. The former Detroit Tigers reliever broke camp with the...

Reds designate veteran righty Buck Farmer for assignment

The Cincinnati Reds announced a series of transactions on Friday afternoon. Robert Dugger, recently claimed off waivers from the Rays, has reported to the team and joined the active roster. Reliever Buck Farmer has been designated for assignment to open space. Cincinnati also activated outfielder Tyler Naquin from the COVID-19 injured list and returned “substitute player” Ronnie Dawson to Triple-A Louisville.

Reds sign Donovan Solano, Buck Farmer

The Reds signed infielder Donovan Solano to a contract worth $4.5M, per Jon Heyman of MLB Network. It was previously reported by various reporters, including C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic, that Solano had a locker in the Reds’ spring clubhouse, along with right-hander Buck Farmer. Solano, 34, spent...

Addition of Buck Farmer does little to help beleaguered Reds bullpen

It was nice to see the Cincinnati Reds front office make some additions on Wednesday rather than subtractions, but signing former Detroit Tigers reliever Buck Farmer to a minor league contract with an invite to spring training does very little to bolster one of the team's biggest weaknesses heading into the 2022.

The fall and rise of the ever-resolute former Tiger Buck Farmer
