Brock Purdy, Joel Gordon break down Iowa State's backup quarterbacks

Iowa State knows who its quarterback is going to be this fall. But the race for the backup spot is well underway. Iowa State arguably has one of the top quarterback rooms in the Big 12 entering the 2021 season. Brock Purdy is one of the top signal callers in all of college football and has two underclassmen fighting to back him up. Hunter Dekkers won the backup job as a true freshman in 2020, but fellow rising redshirt freshman Aidan Bouman will compete with him for the job entering the fall.

Brock Purdy recalls final months of recruiting process that led him to Iowa State

Brock Purdy’s recruitment was different than some in the class of 2018. Purdy — who threw for over 4,000 yards and 57 touchdowns as a senior — didn’t panic as others may have questioned the process.
