There is a lot of excitement surrounding the Texas football program entering spring ball this week. Second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff have a big week ahead right away both in terms of the start of spring practice and hosting key visitors on the recruiting trail this coming weekend.
Just a couple of weeks ago, Texas football head coach Steve Sarkisian made the move to transition one key spot on his staff this offseason. Texas parted ways with the now-former second-year wide receivers coach Andre Coleman in late December. Coleman was subsequently replaced by the former Pitt Panthers wide receivers coach Brennan Marion.
While it could be difficult to decipher at the moment what type of impact the hiring of the former Pitt Panthers wide receivers coach Brennan Marion could have for Texas football recruiting, it is nice to see this coaching staff adding some younger and more energetic personalities. Marion definitely looks to be one of the up-and-coming wide receivers coaches around the college football landscape.

What is likely to be one of the biggest (if not the biggest) hires of the offseason for head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program on staff arrived on Dec. 30. Just ahead of the turn of the calendar year, Texas got a major upgrade to their coaching staff by all indications by adding the former Pitt Panthers wide receivers coach Brennan Marion as their next passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach.
Most indicators are pointing to Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian not being able to find an official replacement for the former wide receivers coach Andre Coleman ahead of the turn of the calendar year. If nothing else, it doesn’t look like Texas will find an official hire to replace Coleman for their wide receivers coach job opening until after the Christmas holiday.
Temple coaching search: Kenni Burns, Brennan Marion, Brian Hartline mentioned as possible candidates
Temple football fired coach Rod Carey Monday after three seasons on the job. Carey was 12-20 during his tenure there after replacing Matt Rhule, who departed for the Carolina Panthers. Which direction Temple will go remains to be seen, but 247Sports' Carl Reed threw out a list of Minnesota running backs coach Kenni Burns, Pittsburgh wide receivers coach Brennan Marion and Ohio State wide receivers coach Brian Hartline as names that the Owls should consider.
On paper, wide receiver is a fairly simple position — catch the football. But some can catch better than others and back in his playing days, not many were quite as good as Brennan Marion, Pitt’s wide receivers coach. Although the position is a job Marion coveted since entering the coaching profession, it took a couple of detours from his original goal to get here.
