Brandon Vera

Rivalries: Brandon Vera

Brandon Vera figures to have few regrets whenever he exits the cage for the final time. The 44-year-old Norfolk, Virginia, native has been a multi-division success and excelled inside two of the most visible mixed martial arts organizations in the sport: One Championship and the Ultimate Fighting Championship. However, Vera now finds himself on a two-fight losing streak, his future muddied by both age and mileage. “The Truth” last competed at One Championship “Dangal” on April 28, 2021, when he suffered a second-round technical knockout loss to Arjan Singh Bhullar and surrendered the promotion’s undisputed heavyweight title.

Arjan Singh Bhullar Captures One Championship Heavyweight Crown with TKO of Brandon Vera

One Championship has crowned its second ever heavyweight king. The main event of the tape-delayed event One Championship “Dangal” saw former Ultimate Fighting Championship 205-pound and heavyweight contender Brandon Vera (16-9 1NC) put his title on the line against fellow UFC vet Arjan Singh Bhullar (11-1). “The Truth” approached the battle with a cautious gameplan as he kept scoring with his jab and switching stances, as to not to offer any window for Bhullar to showcase his wrestling skills. The Canadian fighter was satisfied with keeping the center of the cage and throwing his jab early. Shortly after the midpoint of the first frame, Bhullar faked a punch before duping his opponent into a successful takedown that led to the Canadian fighter keeping the top position for the rest of the frame, completely unconcerned and unthreatened by Vera’s kimura attempts from the bottom.

By the Numbers: Brandon Vera vs. Arjan Singh Bhullar

Brandon Vera has extended his heavyweight reign at One Championship into his 40s, but perhaps his most difficult test to date lies directly ahead. “The Truth” will lock horns with fellow Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran Arjan Singh Bhullar at One Championship “Dangal” at Singapore Indoor Stadium on Saturday (Note: The event was already recorded and will air via tape delay). Heavyweight gold will be on the line as Vera attempts to rebound from a loss to Aung La N Sang in a light heavyweight title bout in his last outing at One Championship “Century” Part 2 in October 2019. Bhullar, meanwhile, is coming off a three-round verdict over Mauro Cerilli on the same card.

Defining Moments: Brandon Vera

Brandon Vera was tabbed by many as a future champion during his early days in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. It took him a little longer to climb that mountain than expected, but “The Truth” has reigned atop One Championship’s heavyweight division since 2015. Though he has competed infrequently since claiming...
