SF Giants get Brandon Crawford, Joc Pederson back from injury

OAKLAND — The last time Brandon Crawford was fully healthy, the Giants were still in the thick of a playoff race. It has been more than six weeks since Crawford banged his left knee sliding into home plate in Atlanta. Coming in the middle of an ultracompetitive series with the reigning champs, before it became clear Crawford would require not one but two stints on the injured list, it would have been easy then to imagine seeing the collision replayed during a potential playoff series.

Giants' Brandon Crawford: Activated from injured list

Crawford (knee) was activated from the injured list Saturday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. The Giants' lineup for Saturday is still pending, but Crawford and Joc Pederson (concussion) will likely be in there to face right-hander Adam Oller after both were reinstated to the active roster. Following a resurgent campaign last year, Crawford's numbers have plummeted again in his age-35 season (.215/.297/.332 with five home runs and one stolen base).

Giants' Brandon Crawford: On track to return Saturday

Crawford (knee) is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list for Saturday's game at Oakland, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The veteran shortstop began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday and is poised to rejoin the Giants for this weekend's two-game series against the A's. With Thairo Estrada (concussion) also on the IL, Dixon Machado should continue to operate as San Francisco's primary shortstop until Crawford officially rejoins the active roster.

Kapler shares rehab assignment plan for Brandon Crawford

The Giants were so desperate at the shortstop position, they threw Jason Vosler, who hadn’t played the position in seven years, into the fire on Saturday night. But San Francisco will soon return its Opening Day shortstop. Brandon Crawford, who’s been on the injured list since July 16, will begin a rehab assignment Tuesday and could be back for the Giants as soon as Thursday.
