Giants’ Blake Martinez glad to to be healthy again after ACL injury

Blake Martinez looked like the same-old dominant inside linebacker at Giants training camp, except for one noticeable difference — he no longer donned a red, no-contact jersey. Martinez’s appearance Wednesday morning marked the 28-year-old’s first practice in more than 10 months since sustaining a season-ending torn ACL in Week 3 versus the Falcons. Following a spring in which he didn’t participate in any live drills at OTAs or minicamp, some feared Martinez would land on the physically unable to perform list heading into training camp. Those fears were put to rest, however, as soon as the veteran stepped onto the practice field. Though...

Giants' Blake Martinez: Dodges PUP list

Martinez (knee) was not on the list of players added to the Giants' PUP list Tuesday, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports. He was reportedly moving well at practice all the way back in May, so it shouldn't come as a huge surprise that Martinez has now almost totally put behind him the ACL tear he suffered in Week 3 of 2021. Expect him to be ready to go by Week 1 in Tennessee, and expect him to again be a high-quality option at IDP as he strives to record at least 140 tackles for the fifth time in his career.

2 FA linebackers who could compete behind Blake Martinez

The New York Giants have a few crucial position battles brewing ahead of training camp. One of the less talked about positions is the second inside linebacker spot. Blake Martinez will continue to be the team’s starting linebacker, but behind him, there could be a competition. There are some young talents who could fight for the position, but the Giants could also turn toward free agency. Danny Trevathan and Jon Bostic are two free agent linebackers that could be signed to compete for the Giants’ second linebacker position.

Giants' Blake Martinez: Moving well in practice

Martinez (knee) has been moving well in OTAs this week, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports. Martinez has been wearing a red non-contact jersey in practice and hasn't been at full speed, but Leonard reports that the linebacker is fully participating in team activities. Martinez sustained a torn ACL in Week 3 of the 2021 season but is hopeful that he'll be ready for game action by August.

Giants’ Micah McFadden comes with undeniable Blake Martinez similarities

The introduction came Friday at the Giants’ practice facility, as one overachieving NFL inside linebacker met what might be considered a younger version of himself, in some ways. Micah McFadden, rookie, meet Blake Martinez, veteran. “Obviously everybody wants to play, but I want to be a starter and perform at a high level in this league,’’ McFadden told The Post on Saturday after the second rookie minicamp practice. “That’s definitely someone I would look up to, and I’m excited to learn from a guy like that.’’ George Young, the Hall of Fame former Giants general manager, used to say there is no such...
