Freekbass Releases Video For ‘Hypnotic Woman’ Collaboration With Billy Sheehan

Acclaimed bassist Freekbass shared the official music video for “Hypnotic Woman.” The song was created in collaboration with legendary bassist Billy Sheehan. “Hypnotic Woman” features Freekbass and Sheehan on bass along with vocals from Gary “Mudbone” Cooper and Eric Nally. The Motet keyboardist Joey Porter also contributed to the track as did The Horn Section consisting of former Turkuaz members Greg Sanderson (tenor sax), Chris Brouwers (trumpet) and Josh Schwartz (baritone sax).

Billy Sheehan and Talas Release First Song in 37 Years

Bass icon Billy Sheehan cut his teeth in Buffalo, New York with the band Talas. Now he’s revealed that the band has a new album coming soon. They’ve released a single titled “Inner Mounting Flame”, which marks the group’s first new music in 37 years. It features vocals from the late Phil Naro, who passed away in May of 2021.

Vai Academy 6.0, as it's being called, will feature electric guitar greats Nuno Bettencourt, Guthrie Govan, Larry Mitchell and Yvette Young, acoustic guitar maestros Tommy Emmanuel and Joe Robinson, and bass guitar wizard Billy Sheehan.

Steve Vai and Dreamcatcher Events have announced Vai Academy 6.0 – “Finding Your Note” will be staged August 4-8, 2022 in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Hilton Lake Las Vegas Resort & Spa. Featured guests at this year’s gathering include Nuno Bettencourt, Guthrie Govan, Larry Mitchell, Joe Robinson, Billy Sheehan, Yvette Young, plus special guest Tommy Emmanuel. Planned activities at the four-day event for players and music lovers of all ages, interests and tastes include jamming with Steve and his band, master classes with Steve in the quest to “find your note,” nightly concerts featuring Steve & Friends, and a special master class and matinee concert by Tommy Emmanuel. There will also be intimate breakout workshops and master classes with Nuno, Guthrie, Larry, Joe, Billy and Yvette. Camper jamming is planned until the break of dawn every night. A signing and photo session will be staged with Vai and team.

During an appearance on a video podcast hosted by Todd Kerns, the bassist of SLASH FEATURING MYLES KENNEDY AND THE CONSPIRATORS, legendary bassist Billy Sheehan discussed his decision to move to Nashville in 2017 after living in Los Angeles for more than three decades. Referencing the fact that Nashville is internationally known for country music, Billy said: “I’m not a country guy, so I don’t know a lot about old-school country. I like it just because it’s kind of culturally amazing — Johnny Cash and Ernest Tubb and Conway Twitty and guys like that. I think it’s pretty cool.
