Former NBA guard Beno Udrih has officially announced his retirement, according to EuroHoops. It was mostly a formality, as the 39-year-old guard hasn’t played in three years and has been a player-development coach on the Pelicans‘ staff since last November. However, he hadn’t made a formal announcement until Saturday when he shared the news on an Instagram post.

Former Spurs guard Beno Udrih announces retirement

SAN ANTONIO — In an Instagram post, former San Antonio Spurs guard Beno Udrih announced his basketball retirement. Udrih was drafted by the Spurs in 2004 No. 28 overall. He was looked at to back up Tony Parker but never got significant minutes after the Spurs signed Nick Van Exel and Jacque Vaughn during his tenure with the team.

Even though Udrih played his last game three years ago with Zalgiris Kaunas and has been working as player development coach on the New Orleans Pelicans since 2020, he hadn’t officially put an end to his career until today (27/11) via a post on Instagram.
