Congressman Bennie Thompson Awards $3 Million in Community Project Funding to Jackson State University

U.S. Representative Bennie Thompson visited Jackson State University (JSU) on Thursday to award two ceremonial checks to the historically black schools in his district: JSU was awarded $3 million to support the Center for Living, Learning and Cultural Engagement; and Tougaloo College was awarded $1 million to support the Reuben V. Anderson Institute for Social Justice.

This is a good week for Jackson State University and Tougaloo College. Thursday U.S. Congressman Bennie Thompson announced the two schools are slated to receive millions of dollars in federal funding. Thompson made the announcement along with the Presidents of JSU and Tougaloo in the Bank Plus Atrium in the JSU College of Business. Thompson says the schools were chosen in part to help level the funding playing field.

The House select committee investigating the Capitol Riots is in talks with former Attorney General William Barr according to the committee’s chairman. During a televised interview, Representative Bennie Thompson said ‘we’ve had conversations with the former attorney general already.’ … ‘we’ve talked to the Department of Defense individuals. We are concerned that our military was part of this big lie on promoting that the election was false.’ The answer was in response to a question regarding a draft of an executive order that had been presented to former President Trump in December 2020 to have the Secretary of Defense seize voting machines in battleground states. Barr resigned in December 2020 after rebuking former President Trump’s false claims about widespread election fraud.
