'We've always shared the bond of baseball': Benjamin family cherishes shared experience

For nearly 40 years, at least one member of the Benjamin family has been a part of the St. Charles Prep baseball program. It began with Bob Benjamin Sr., who first joined the Cardinals in 1983 as an assistant coach. While an assistant, he coached two of his sons, Ray and Bob, before becoming the head coach in 1993. Bob remained in that role until 1997, with Ray as one of his assistants, and then Ray took over for his dad as head coach in 1998.

Sheriff’s log: A ransacked house in Rosedale and a bogus Benjamin in Lakebay

A woman discovered April 20 that the house she had been watching had been burglarized. She was taking care of the house in the 7400 block of Ray Nash Dr NW for her sister, who was on vacation. When she stopped by to check the mail, she saw that the glass on the front door was broken. A deputy searched the house and saw that every room had been ransacked. Most items of value were still there, and it wasn’t clear what, if anything, had been taken. The deputy helped the woman board up the house. The investigation is ongoing.

The residents and volunteers at Marias Heritage Center have plunked out tunes on a very old, well-loved piano for a long time. The piano, though it was a faithful instrument, was often difficult to play. Lila Lindbergh, resident at the Heritage Center for many years and a skilled pianist, was one of the few that could persuade the piano to play a pretty tune.
