With July approaching, Ben Cherington says trade talks have picked up

It’s hard to know when the trades will start to pick up in Major League Baseball. That’s true for those on the outside, and it’s even true for some on the inside. Pirates general manager Ben Cherington said Saturday that he thinks conversations surrounding trades have started to pick up recently, a little more than a month away from the trade deadline on July 30, but added that he is historically bad at predicting when conversations turn into actual action and the trades begin in earnest.

GM Ben Cherington insists Pirates want players to earn more money on the field

Ke’Bryan Hayes’ reintroduction to the Pirates’ lineup has been a pleasant storyline for a team that hasn’t had a whole lot of them this season.
