Reds claim catcher Beau Taylor, DFA catcher Deivy Grullón

The Cincinnati Reds made three roster moves this afternoon before their game against the St. Louis Cardinals. The team picked off catcher Beau Taylor off of waivers from their spring training roommate Cleveland. To create room on the 40-man roster the team designated catcher Deivy Grullón for assignment. Earlier in the week the team designated right-handed pitcher Edgar García for assignment. He cleared waivers today and was outrighted to the alternate training site.

Reds' Beau Taylor: Claimed, optioned by Reds

Taylor was claimed off waivers by the Reds on Saturday and optioned to the team's alternate training site. Taylor won't have to move too far after being designated by assignment by Cleveland in late March. The 31-year-old will be a depth option behind the plate for his new organization but has done nothing to show he deserves regular opportunities in his 60 major-league plate appearances to date, hitting .118/.237/.255.

Indians' Beau Taylor: Won't make Opening Day roster

Taylor was informed Sunday that he won't be on Cleveland's Opening Day roster, Mandy Bell of reports. The 31-year-old was never a likely bet to open the season with Cleveland since Roberto Perez and Austin Hedges have remained healthy in camp. Taylor figures to be the top option for a promotion if Perez or Hedges face any injury issues this season.
