Barry Alvarez critical of NCAA's handling of NIL

A lot changed across collegiate athletics on July 1, 2021. It was notable for the University of Wisconsin in more than one way. The day marked a change inside the athletic department, with Chris McIntosh taking over for Barry Alvarez as athletic director. Alvarez, who coached the UW football program from 1990-2005, led the department for 18 years before retiring.

Barry Alvarez, Brian Calhoun - 2006 Capital One Bowl

6 – 2006 Capital One Bowl: No. 21 UW 24, No. 7 Auburn 7. The Badgers were in the Big Ten title hunt until opening November with back-to-back losses to Penn State and Iowa. Still, the buildup to this one was exciting because it was a farewell to Barry Alvarez and he’d never ever coach another game for the Badgers, right? Oops. Orlando would end up being my least-favorite bowl destination but I didn’t know that before this trip, so it had no impact on my grade.
