Happy Wednesday, everyone. Good morning to everyone but especially to... Auston Matthews has won his first MVP award. It probably won't be his last. The 24-year-old Maple Leafs superstar won the Hart Trophy, given to the league's most valuable player, by a wide margin over second-place finisher Connor McDavid. Matthews also won the Ted Lindsay Award, given to the league's most outstanding player.

Maple Leafs C Auston Matthews claims NHL MVP honors

June 22 (UPI) -- Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews is the winner of the 2021-22 Hart Memorial Trophy, given annually to the NHL's MVP, the league announced. Matthews collected that hardware, as well as the Ted Lindsay Award -- the MVP trophy given out by the NHLPA -- at the NHL Awards on Tuesday at Armature Works in Tampa, Fla. He also claimed the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy, as the league's top goal scorer.

Maple Leafs' Auston Matthews wins 2022 Hart Memorial Trophy

Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews won the 2022 Hart Memorial Trophy, which recognizes the NHL's most valuable player. Matthews, 24, finished the 2021-22 season with 60 goals, the most for any NHL player in a single season in a decade. He received 119 first-place votes on the 195 ballots to win the Hart Trophy. The Edmonton Oilers' Connor McDavid — who won the award last season — finished second with 29 first-place votes and New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin finished third with 24 first-place votes.
