Red Sox activate Danny Santana, designate Austin Brice for assignment

A foot infection pushed back the timeline a bit, but he started playing earlier this month when the minor-league season kicked off, and it was all but certain he’d be up on the active roster, and sooner than later. The expectation was that he’d be called up for Friday’s game to start off Boston’s three-game series against the Phillies, and that’s exactly what happened. Red Sox's Austin Brice: Enters in low-leverage situation

Brice allowed three runs on one hit and two walks while striking two over two-thirds of an inning in Sunday's 14-9 win over Baltimore. Brice entered with Boston up 10-4 and left after the Orioles clawed their way back into the game. It was his fourth outing of the season, all of which have come in low-intensity spots. Brice was unscored upon over the first three appearances before he made Sunday's laugher more tense after Trey Mancini touched him for a three-run home run.
