Sources: Raquel Pennington to replace Irene Aldana, fight Aspen Ladd on April 9

The UFC lost a top women's bantamweight contender fight on its pay-per-view card next month but is replacing it with another. Irene Aldana is out of a scheduled fight with Aspen Ladd at UFC 273 on April 9 in Jacksonville, Florida, because of an undisclosed injury, sources confirmed Saturday to ESPN. In Aldana's place, Raquel Pennington has been tabbed as Ladd's opponent on the same card, sources said. The news was first reported by Eurosport Netherlands.

With Irene Aldana out, Raquel Pennington steps in to face Aspen Ladd at UFC 273

Aspen Ladd has a new opponent for her return to the bantamweight division. Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed to MMA Fighting that Irene Aldana has been forced to withdraw from her scheduled matchup with Ladd. Raquel Pennington steps in as a short-notice replacement at UFC 273, which takes place April 9 at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla. Eurosport was first to report the new booking.

Aspen Ladd blasts “the Karen of MMA” Miesha Tate, says she’ll fight her for free: “I just want to hit her”

Aspen Ladd still hopes she can fight Miesha Tate one day. The feud began after Tate blasted Ladd and her coach and boyfriend in Jim West for the way West yelled at her inside the Octagon during the Norma Dumont fight. West was trying to get Ladd going heading into the fifth round as she was clearly losing but Tate claimed that she’s in an abusive relationship.

Aspen Ladd would fight the ‘Karen of MMA’ Miesha Tate for free

Aspen Ladd vs. Miesha Tate seemed like a no-brainer after each woman’s last times out. However, they’ve instead gone in separate directions. October 16, 2021, marked Ladd’s first fight since tearing her ACL in 2019 but she was intending on returning sooner. Matched with Macy Chiasson for a July Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Bantamweight tilt, Chiasson would suffer an injury before the fight was re-made for October 2. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t pan out that time either.
