Asher on Aspen: Back to the Barre and a love letter to ballet

When I was 18, I auditioned for the dance program at Juilliard. It was one of the single most nerve-racking and exhilarating things that I’ve ever had to do. My teachers worked with me for hours on end, repeatedly for weeks to perfect each movement and rehearse each segment of my audition solo. I had never worked on something so hard in my entire life. This audition was one of many during my senior year of high school. Growing up, the plan was always to dance professionally and pursue performing arts in college over academics.

Asher on Aspen: Getting Lost in the Trees

We secured a red gondola and immediately pulled out our phones to pair the music to Bluetooth. Was it a Kygo, Kenny Chesney, or Rolling Stones type of ride? I’m a firm believer that the music on the 17-minute journey up the mountain sets the tone for the rest of the day. I leaned over to tighten my boots while my friend stuck her arm out the window to capture a video. The sun was shining, the temps were in the mid-50s and it was shaping up to be yet another beautiful bluebird day on Aspen Mountain.

Asher on Aspen: Big City Ramblin’

With every offseason comes the innate desire to escape our mountain town bubble. Whether it’s flying overseas or merely taking a trip to Moab, getting out of town is essential this time of year. Locals tend to go a bit stir crazy when the snow begins to melt and the days start getting longer. When I get this inkling, I rely on Colorado’s big city just four hours away.
